Summer Graduation Cornwall - May 2025 update

Dear Graduand,

As summer term starts, we expect you'll be counting down to Graduation, so we thought this would be a good time to update you on this year's plans.

If you haven't already registered, please do so by Sunday 18 May 2025.

We're getting excited about it and hope you are too.

What will Cornwall Graduation look and feel like?

July 2025 will be the first year that all Graduation activities will take place at the Penryn Campus, from gowning and photography, through to the Graduation ceremony and onto the post ceremony receptions.

This will benefit our guests and graduands by providing improved accessibility within the venues and around campus, and a larger ceremony hall that can accommodate more guests with improved viewing from all seats. It will reduce the amount of unnecessary travel between venues, minimising logistical issues for attendees. This approach will reinforce the sense of community among graduating students, academic staff, and families.

Student representatives have been instrumental in creating a unique style for the event and have ensured that all of the elements which contribute to the celebration have been considered in terms of popularity for our graduands and guests, as well as cost and sustainability.

How have we responded to recent feedback in designing Penryn Graduation for Summer 2025?

In January, a Graduation Planning Committee was convened, comprising of student representatives from across the campus, the SU president and key members of staff, in order to explore further student feedback and prioritise additions or amendments to the on-campus experience.

The Committee have been meeting monthly and have generated some wonderful ideas to make the Graduation ceremony and celebrations more personal and a touch more Cornish, which is a reflection of their lived student experience here in Cornwall.

We are really pleased to have been able to adopt some of these ideas and are excited to see them develop.

At some point after Summer Graduation, we will be asking the new graduates for feedback, so that we can keep on improving the graduation experience for future graduands. You can view all of the general information about Graduation here on our website.

The Graduation Planning Committee has helped us identify some additional FAQ's, please find these below:

Will there be free on-site parking?

Where will Graduation activities be taking place on campus?

Will I be able to book additional ceremony tickets?

Can I bring additional guests to watch the live stream? / How many guests can I bring to campus?

Will there be food and drink on campus?

Who do I talk to if I or my guests have accessibility needs?

Can I buy a brochure on the day?
Brochures are not printed on the day to ensure we meet our sustainability commitments, however you can view a digital brochure on the day of your ceremony (you can access this via a QR code on the day) and you can order a personalised printed brochure from Brochure Print.

Do I have a prizegiving or other event organised by my department?
If your department have organised a prizegiving event, they will contact you to inform you of the timing and location.

There will be photography and videography at this event that will be used for University marketing, please speak to the member of staff if you don’t want your photo taken.

Best wishes,

The Graduation Team
