Annual University Registration

Registration is the process by which you agree to the University’s current regulations. It is a requirement for both new and returning students to complete registration at the start of your studies in each academic year.

Registration takes place online in the Student Record System.

All students will receive a notification when they need to register:

  • New Students receive this notification in your Welcome email from Admissions. Before you can register online, you will need to activate your IT account.
  • Returning students receive this notification by email to your University account.
  • New international students on a Student Visa cannot complete University registration until you have completed International Student Clearance, as detailed in your Welcome email from Admissions.
  • International students returning to study after an interruption may not be able to complete University registration until you have completed International Student Clearance, please check your "Returning from interruption" e-mail.

How to access annual University registration

  • Log in to the Student Record System using your short username and password.
  • In the Student Record System, if you have been cleared to register you will see a red box "Welcome to online registration". Click on the "REGISTER NOW" link to enter the online registration pages.

Please note that the release of your Student Maintenance Loan (if due) is linked to the registration process. The Student Loans Company should pay your loan directly into your bank account within four working days of either the start of your programme, the date you register online, or the date your student funding application is full approved - whichever is later.

Non-UK students

All non-UK students will need to present their passport and immigration status (visa) to the University in person. You will need to book an appointment to attend International Student Clearance. You will not be able to complete online registration until step is completed.

Students with an outstanding debt

If you have an outstanding balance owing to the University, in accordance with our Student Finance Regulations you will not be permitted to register or study for the academic year. If outstanding balances have not been paid by week 2 of the academic year students will be deemed to have withdrawn and have their registration terminated.

If you are worried about being able to make payment for an outstanding balance seek advice and support. You may find some useful information in our support pages

The following tables shows the dates that registration processes will be available in the Student Record System.

You may be asked to register a month or two prior to the formal start date of your programme of study. Please do not wait until your start date to complete the registration process, instead please act upon the emails asking you to complete the process when they are received.

Students who are continuing study are required to register at the start of academic year, NOT on the anniversary of the original start date. You will be sent an email starting when you are required to complete the process. Please act upon the email when received.

What happens if I do not complete the registration process?

If you do not complete annual university registration by the deadline noted in your registration reminder email you will lose your IT access, library borrowing rights and access to learning and teaching materials. You may also have your period of study terminated. If you think you have registered but are still receiving reminders to register, you have not yet completed registration and are required to do so.

If you are unable to arrive and/or complete the registration process by the specified deadline you can apply to register late through the late registration form. Your request will be considered on a case by case basis and you will receive notification of the outcome of your request by email within 3 working days. Please do not submit more than one request.

If your request for late registration is approved your IT access will be reinstated and you will be required to complete registration by a deadline that will be stated in your approval email.
