Researcher Development : Open Research - Making Your Work Open Access
Description | Theme: Education and Research Category: Education and Research About this course: This course will be delivered ONLINE and a joining link will be sent to you beforehand. Open research comprises openness throughout the research cycle, through collaborative working and sharing, and making research methodology, software, code, and equipment freely available online, along with instructions for using it. Open research includes making publications freely available online (open access), in addition to the underlying research data (open data). Open access to research publications and research data makes them more visible. This can lead to greater impact, higher citations, and can stimulate new research opportunities and collaborations. This session will provide an overview of Open Research, including what it is, its benefits, and why it is relevant. You will learn how to make your research publications open access as well as understanding the requirements of the University, research funders, and publishers.
Learning outcomes: As a result of attending this course, you will be able to:. - Understand the Open Research landscape and the benefits of Open Research. - Know how to make your publications open access. - Better understand the requirements of the research funders, the University, and publishers. - Know who to contact regarding your Open Research queries.
Who should attend this course: All academic or professional services staff who are interested in Open Research. If you have accessibility requirements, please contact researcherdevelopment@exeter.ac.uk in advance to discuss further.
Presenter(s): Caroline Huxtable and Imogen Ward-Smith from the Open Research Team in the Library. Caroline and Imogen both work in the Open Research team in the library, supporting researchers at the University to make their work open access, including uploading via Symplectic to the institutional repository ORE and publishing open access on the publisher website. They additionally support compliance with funder, University and REF open access policies.
