Researcher Development : Publishing in Open Access
Description | Theme: Education and Research Category: Education and Research This activity is for all research active staff and would be particularly useful to Early Career Researchers. This session will be DELIVERED VIRTUALLY - joining instructions will be provided beforehand.
About this course: Open access increases visibility of research as it means your work is available to anybody that wishes to read it, without having to log in or pay. This can lead to greater readership, higher citations, increase impact of your work and stimulate new research opportunities and collaborations. The University of Exeter supports the principles of open access where legally, commercially and ethically appropriate. This virtual session will explain what it means to publish in open access, the types of publishers, and open access licensing options. Funds available to publish open access and publishers' agreements through which authors can publish without paying any publishing fees will be presented.
Learning outcomes: As a result of attending this course, you will be able to:. - Understand what it means to publish open access on the publisher websites. - Be aware of the licensing options when publishing open access. - Understand open access funding options available, how and when to request internal funds. - Learn about publisher agreements in place at Exeter through which you can publish without open access publishing fees. - Have an awareness of the risk of Predatory publishers / journals and how to spot them.

Presenter(s): Imogen Ward-Smith, Open Research Team (Library).
